The 8925(E/R) series employs the same proven contact design as the 8900 series board-to-board connectors. In addition, this low-profile IDC connector system features a new locking ejector mechanism. The mating height of the 8925R/8930E series is 11.8mm, significantly smaller than that of the previous IDC connector system (KEL 8825E/8830E series). The termination process for the 8925E series begins by placing a 0.635mm pitch flat cable between Cover 1 and Cover 2, which aligns the cable and prevents any misalignment between the cable and connector. The contacts are held in place by the insulator body. The contact fork tips, featuring guide tapers and locking tabs, are sharp enough to pierce through the cable jacket, providing gas-tight termination. The intentionally rounded contact ribs generate high pressure to ensure reliable termination during the termination process without causing damage. The connector can be terminated using minimal dedicated tooling in a standard press as well as in presses used for MIL-STD type connectors. The reliability of the termination process depends on maintaining proper alignment between the cable and connector, between the contacts and conductors, and on the stability of the contacts within the connector. The 8925(E) design meets all of the above requirements.
