Overview
The ADS8881 is an 18-bit, 1MSPS, true differential-input analog-to-digital converter (ADC). This device operates with an external reference voltage ranging from 2.5V to 5V, providing a wide signal range without the need for additional signal conditioning. The reference voltage setting is independent of and can exceed the analog supply voltage (AVDD). The device provides a compatible SPI serial interface. This serial interface also supports daisy-chain operation for cascading multiple devices. An optional busy indicator bit facilitates easy synchronization with the digital host. The device supports unipolar true differential analog input signals with a differential input swing from -VREF to VREF. This true differential analog input structure allows the common-mode voltage to take any value within the range of 0V to VREF (when both inputs are within the input operating voltage range of -0.1V to VREF + 0.1V). The device operation is optimized for extremely low power consumption. The power consumption is directly proportional to the speed. This characteristic makes the ADS8881 well-suited for low-speed applications.
