These octal bus transceivers are specifically designed for low-voltage (3.3-V) VCC operation while providing TTL interface capability to 5-V system environments. These devices are designed for asynchronous communication between data buses. Depending on the logic level of the direction control (DIR) input, data can be transmitted from the A bus to the B bus, or from the B bus to the A bus. The output enable (OE) input can be used to disable the device, effectively isolating the buses. To ensure a high-impedance state is maintained during power-up or power-down, OE should be connected to VCC through a pullup resistor; the minimum resistor value is determined by the current-sinking capability of the driver. The active bus-hold circuitry holds unused or floating data inputs at a valid logic level. The use of pullup or pulldown resistors with the bus-hold circuitry is not recommended. These devices are fully characterized for hot-insertion applications using the Ioff and power-up three-state features. The Ioff circuit disables the outputs, preventing damaging backflow current when the device is powered down. The power-up three-state circuit places the outputs in a high-impedance state during power-up and power-down, preventing driver conflicts.
