The TPS7B86-Q1 is a low-dropout linear regulator specifically designed for connecting to the battery in automotive applications. The device has an input voltage range of up to 40V, so it can withstand transients (such as load dumps) that may occur in automotive systems. The device has a quiescent current of only 17μA at light loads, making it an excellent solution for powering always-on devices such as microcontrollers (MCUs) and controller area network (CAN) transceivers in standby systems. The device features advanced transient response, enabling the output to quickly respond to load or line changes (e.g., under cold-start conditions). In addition, the device has a novel architecture that minimizes the output overshoot amplitude during recovery from voltage dips. During normal operation, the device maintains a DC accuracy of ±0.85% over the entire line, load, and temperature ranges. The power-good status indication delay can be adjusted via external components, so the delay time can be configured to suit the application-specific system. The device uses a thermally conductive package, allowing it to efficiently conduct heat to the circuit board.
