Overview

The ADP2108 is a high-efficiency, low quiescent current, step-down DC-DC converter available in two different packages. The complete solution requires only three small external components. It employs a proprietary high-speed current-mode, constant-frequency PWM control scheme, delivering excellent stability and transient response. To maximize battery life in portable applications, the ADP2108 features a power-save mode that reduces switching frequency under light-load conditions. The ADP2108 operates from a 2.3V to 5.5V input voltage, compatible with a single Li-ion or Li-polymer cell, multiple alkaline or NiMH cells, PCMCIA, USB, and other standard power sources. A maximum load current of 600mA is achievable across the entire input voltage range. The ADP2108 offers fixed output voltages of 3.3V, 3.0V, 2.5V, 2.3V, 1.82V, 1.8V, 1.5V, 1.3V, 1.2V, 1.1V, and 1.0V. To minimize external component count and improve efficiency, all versions integrate the power switch and synchronous rectifier on-chip. The ADP2108 incorporates a soft-start function with internal compensation. During logic-controlled shutdown, the input is disconnected from the output, and the ADP2108 draws less than 1μA from the input supply. Additional key features include: undervoltage lockout to prevent deep battery discharge, and soft-start to prevent input current overshoot during startup.
