The bq78z100 device offers a fully integrated battery pack-based solution. It features a flash-programmable custom Reduced Instruction Set CPU (RISC), safety protection, and authentication functions, and is suitable for 1-cell and 2-cell lithium-ion and lithium-polymer battery packs. The bq78z100 fuel gauge communicates via an I²C-compatible interface or a single-wire HDQ interface, and seamlessly integrates an ultra-low-power high-speed bqBMP processor, high-precision analog measurement capabilities, integrated flash memory, a wide range of peripherals and communication ports, an N-channel FET driver, and an SHA-1 authentication conversion responder into a complete high-performance battery management solution. The bq78z100 device provides a wide range of battery and system safety functions, including over-discharge current protection for the battery, charging short-circuit and discharging short-circuit protection, FET protection for the N-channel FET, an internal AFE watchdog, and battery balancing function. Additional protection features, such as overvoltage, undervoltage, and overheating protection, can be added to the device through firmware.
