The LM22672 switching regulator uses minimal external components to provide all the functions needed to implement a high-efficiency, high-voltage step-down regulator. This regulator is easy to use and integrates a 42V N-channel MOSFET switch capable of delivering up to 1A of load current. It also features excellent line and load regulation with high efficiency (>90%). Voltage-mode control provides a short minimum on-time, enabling the widest input-to-output voltage ratio. Internal loop compensation eliminates the tedious task of calculating loop compensation components. The regulator is available in both 5V fixed output and adjustable output voltage options. The default switching frequency is set to 500kHz, allowing the use of small external components while providing good transient response. The frequency can also be adjusted over a range of 200kHz to 1MHz using a single external resistor. The internal oscillator can be synchronized to a system clock or the oscillator of another regulator. A precision enable input simplifies regulator control and system power sequencing. In shutdown mode, the regulator draws only 25μA (typical) of quiescent current. An adjustable soft-start feature is available by selecting a single external capacitor. The LM22672 also incorporates built-in thermal shutdown and current limiting to protect the device against accidental overload conditions.
