The LM2596T/S switching voltage regulator is a step-down power management monolithic IC capable of delivering 3A drive current with excellent line and load regulation. The device is available in fixed output voltage versions of 3.3V, 5V, and 12V, as well as an adjustable output version capable of producing various voltages below 37V. It integrates an internal frequency compensation circuit and fixed-frequency oscillator operating at 150KHz, allowing the use of smaller filter components compared to lower-frequency switching regulators. The device requires only 4 external components and is compatible with standard off-the-shelf inductors, greatly simplifying switching power supply circuit design. Package options include the standard 5-pin TO-220-5L and 5-pin TO-263-5L SMD packages. Under specified input voltage and output load conditions, the device guarantees output voltage accuracy within ±4% and oscillation frequency accuracy within ±15%. It features a standby current as low as 80μA for external shutdown, and incorporates built-in protection circuits including two-stage frequency-reducing current limiting protection and thermal shutdown protection that activates under abnormal conditions.
