The LMH6401 is a wideband, digitally controlled variable gain amplifier (DVGA) designed for DC-to-RF, IF, and high-speed time-domain applications. It is an ideal ADC driver for DC- or AC-coupled applications requiring AGC. The device is optimized for noise and distortion performance to drive ultra-wideband ADCs. The amplifier achieves a noise figure of 8dB at maximum gain and harmonic distortion of -63dBc at 1GHz full-scale signal level. The device supports both single-supply and split-supply operation to drive ADCs. A common-mode reference input pin is provided to align the amplifier output common mode with ADC input requirements. Gain control is performed via SPI interface, supporting a 32dB gain range (–6dB to 26dB in 1dB steps). Power-down functionality is also available through an external PD pin or SPI control. This level of performance is achieved at a low power consumption of 345mW. The device operates over an ambient temperature range of -40°C to 85°C.
