The bidirectional transceiver meets or exceeds the requirements of ANSI standards TIA/EIA-422-B and TIA/EIA-485-A, as well as ITU recommendations V.11 and X.27. It is suitable for multipoint transmission on long-distance bus lines in noisy environments. It features tri-state driver and receiver outputs, separate driver and receiver enable terminals, a wide positive and negative input/output bus voltage range, a maximum driver output capability of ±60mA, thermal shutdown protection, positive and negative current limiting for the driver, a minimum receiver input impedance of 12kΩ, a receiver input sensitivity of ±200mV, a typical receiver input hysteresis of 50mV, and is powered by a single 5V supply. The SN65176B and SN75176B differential bus transceivers are designed to achieve bidirectional data communication on multipoint bus transmission lines. These devices are designed for balanced transmission lines and comply with ANSI standards TIA/EIA-422-B and TIA/EIA-485-A, as well as ITU recommendations V.11 and X.27. The SN65176B and SN75176B devices integrate a tri-state differential line driver and a differential input line receiver, both powered by a single 5V supply. The driver and receiver have active-high and active-low enable terminals respectively, which can be externally connected together for direction control. The driver differential outputs and receiver differential inputs are internally connected to form differential input/output (I/O) bus ports. These ports provide minimum loading to the bus when the driver is disabled or VCC = 0. These ports have a wide positive and negative common-mode voltage range, making the device suitable for common-bus applications. The driver is designed to achieve a sinking or sourcing current of up to 60mA. The driver has positive and negative current limiting and thermal shutdown functions to avoid line fault conditions. Thermal shutdown occurs at a junction temperature of approximately 150°C by design. The receiver has a minimum input impedance of 12kΩ, an input sensitivity of ±200mV, and a typical input hysteresis of 50mV.
