The TPS53316 device uses a total of 16 components within 200mm² of PCB area to provide a fully integrated 3.3V or 5V input synchronous buck converter. Thanks to low RDS(on) and TI's proprietary SmoothPWM skip mode, it achieves 96% peak efficiency and greater than 90% efficiency at loads as low as 100mA. It requires only 2 × 22μF ceramic output capacitors to realize a power-dense 5A solution. The TPS53316 offers 750kHz, 1.1MHz, and 2MHz switching frequency options, pre-bias startup, selectable internal soft-start, output soft discharge, internal VBST switch, power good, EN/input UVLO, overcurrent, overvoltage, undervoltage, and overtemperature protection, as well as all-ceramic output capacitor support. It supports input voltages ranging from 2.9V to 6V with no additional bias voltage required. The output voltage is adjustable from 0.6V to 0.8×VIN. The TPS53316 is available in a 3mm×3mm, 16-pin QFN package (green, RoHS-compliant, and lead-free), rated for an operating temperature range of -40°C to 85°C.
