TPS54A20 is a dual-phase synchronous series-capacitor buck converter designed for small-size, low-voltage applications with a 12V input voltage rail. This device employs a unique topology that integrates a switched-capacitor circuit with a dual-phase buck converter, offering numerous advantages including automatic current balancing between inductors, reduced switching losses (enabling HF operation), and voltage step-down via series capacitor. Low-value, thin-profile inductors used with the TPS54A20 significantly reduce solution area and height. The device utilizes an adaptive on-time control architecture to deliver fast transient response and accurate voltage regulation at operating frequencies up to 10MHz. Steady-state fixed-frequency operation is maintained by using a PLL to lock the switching signal to a reference oscillator.
