The TPS56X20 is a synchronous DC-DC converter IC with voltage regulation control, designed to power microprocessors (MCUs) requiring core voltage (VCORE) adjustment. After initial power-up, the output voltage can be programmed/adjusted via VID codes transmitted over an I²C-compatible bus. This step-down converter employs an adaptive on-time D-CAP2 mode control, which provides ultra-fast transient response without external components. Unlike conventional voltage/current mode control, D-CAP2 supports seamless transition between PWM mode under heavy load and Eco-mode™ under light load. Eco-mode maintains high efficiency at light loads. The TPS56X20 supports ultra-low ESR ceramic capacitors and low ESR output capacitors, such as POSCAP or SP-CAP. The device is optimized for small 1.0μH to 2.2μH inductors, saving PCB area. The TPS56X20 is available in an HTSSOP package.
