The TPS6236x is a family of high-frequency synchronous step-down DC/DC converters optimized for battery-powered portable applications requiring a small solution size. With an input voltage range of 2.5V to 5.5V, it supports common battery technologies. The device delivers 3A peak load current and operates at a typical switching frequency of 2.5MHz. The device converts to an output voltage range of 0.77V to 1.4V (TPS62360/62) and 0.5V to 1.77V (TPS62361B/63), programmable via I2C interface in 10mV steps. A dedicated input enables fast voltage transitions to address processor performance operating points. The TPS6236x supports processor cores in low-voltage DSPs, smartphones, and handheld computers including the latest sub-micron process nodes. Dedicated hardware input pins allow simple transitions to performance operating points and processor retention mode. The device focuses on high output voltage accuracy. The differential sensing and DCS-Control™ architecture enables precise static and dynamic transient output voltage regulation. The TPS6236x provides high-efficiency step-down conversion. The highest efficiency region is extended to low output currents to increase efficiency while the processor operates in retention mode, and is also extended to maximum output current to prolong battery on-time. A robust architecture with multiple protection features enables optimal system integration. The 2mm × 2mm package and minimal external component count achieve an ultra-compact solution size of less than 25mm².
