Overview
TPS65279 is a monolithic dual synchronous buck converter with a 4.5V to 18V wide operating input voltage range, covering most power buses or batteries with intermediate bus voltages of 5V, 9V, 12V, or 15V. This constant-frequency peak current mode control converter is designed to simplify its application while enabling designers to optimize their implementation for the target application. By using current sharing mode with the ISHARE pin tied high, the two buck converters in the TPS65279 can be connected in parallel to deliver up to 10A load current. Two-phase operation with current sharing reduces system filter capacitors and inductors, mitigates EMI, and improves output voltage ripple and noise. The TPS65279 features a dedicated enable pin. An independent soft-start pin provides flexibility in power-up programmability. Constant-frequency peak current mode simplifies compensation and provides fast transient response. Cycle-by-cycle overcurrent protection and discontinuous mode operation limit MOSFET power dissipation under short-circuit or overload fault conditions. Low-side reverse overcurrent protection also prevents excessive sink current from damaging the converter. The TPS65279 further features a light-load pulse skip mode (PSM) configured via the MODE pin. The TPS65279 is available in a 32-pin thermally enhanced HTSSOP (DAP) package and a 36-pin 6mm × 6mm VQFN (RHH) package.
