TPS65279V is a monolithic dual synchronous buck converter with a wide input voltage range of 4.5V to 18V, capable of operating on bus voltages of 5V, 9V, 12V, or 15V, and can also be powered by various battery chemistries. This converter is designed to simplify its application while enabling designers to optimize their usage based on the target application. Each buck converter in the TPS65279V features external feedback resistors that can be used to set the initial startup voltage. The feedback voltage reference for this startup option is 0.6V. Once the VID DAC is updated via I²C, the buck converter switches the feedback resistors from external to internal. The output voltage of each buck converter can be set in the range of 0.68V to 1.95V (in 10mV steps) using an I²C-controlled 7-bit VID. Each buck converter in the TPS65279V supports I²C-controlled enable/disable of output voltage, pulse skip mode configuration, and readback of power-good status and die temperature alarm. The switching frequency of this converter can be set between 200kHz and 1.6MHz using a single external resistor. The 2 converters feature 180° phase-shifted clock signals. By leaving the MODE pin floating, the two buck converters in the TPS65279V can be connected in parallel to provide load currents up to 10A. Two-phase operation with current sharing reduces system filter capacitors and inductors, mitigates EMI, and improves output voltage ripple and noise. The TPS65279V features dedicated enable pins for use when the I²C interface is unavailable. Independent soft-start pins provide flexibility in power-up programmability. Constant-frequency peak current mode control simplifies compensation and provides fast transient response. Cycle-by-cycle overcurrent protection and discontinuous mode operation limit MOSFET power dissipation under short-circuit or overload fault conditions. Low-side reverse overcurrent protection also prevents excessive sink current from damaging the converter. The TPS65279V also features a light-load pulse skip mode (PSM), which can be controlled via I²C or MODE pin configuration. PSM reduces power dissipation on the system input supply to achieve high efficiency at light loads. The TPS65279V is available in a 32-pin thermally enhanced HTSSOP (DAP) package and a 36-pin QFN 6mm × 6mm (RHH) package.
