Overview
The BQ28Z610-R1 device is a highly integrated, high-precision 1-2 cell series battery fuel gauge and protection solution that enables autonomous charge control and cell balancing. The device broadcasts charge current and voltage information via the master mode I2C to enable autonomous charge control, eliminating the software overhead typically incurred by the system host controller. The device offers a fully integrated battery pack-based solution with a flash-programmable, custom reduced instruction set CPU (RISC), safety protection, and authentication features, suitable for 1-2 cell series lithium-ion and lithium-polymer battery packs. The BQ28Z610-R1 fuel gauge communicates via an I2C-compatible interface and combines an ultra-low-power, high-speed TI BQBMP processor, high-precision analog measurement capabilities, integrated flash, a large number of peripherals and communication ports, an N-channel FET driver, and an SHA-1 authentication transition responder into a complete high-performance battery management solution. The BQ28Z610-R1 device provides a wide range of battery and system safety features, including over-discharge current protection, charge short-circuit and discharge short-circuit protection for the battery, FET protection for the N-channel FET, an internal AFE watchdog, and cell balancing. Additional protection features, such as overvoltage, undervoltage, and overheating, can be added to the device via firmware.
