The MPC8308 is a cost-effective, low-power, highly integrated main processor — an extended member of the PowerQUICC family — designed to enhance CPU performance, add functionality, and increase interface speeds while meeting time-to-market, cost, power consumption, and package size requirements. The MPC8308 features an e300 core with 16 KB instruction cache and 16 KB data cache, implementing the Power Architecture user instruction set architecture and providing hardware and software debug support. In addition, the MPC8308 integrates a PCI Express controller, two tri-speed 10/100/1000 Mbps Ethernet controllers (eTSEC), a DDR2 SDRAM memory controller, a SerDes module, an enhanced local bus controller (eLBC), an integrated programmable interrupt controller (IPIC), a general-purpose DMA controller, two I2C controllers, a dual UART (DUART), GPIO, USB, general-purpose timers, and an SPI controller. The high integration of the MPC8308 helps simplify board design while delivering excellent bandwidth and performance.
