The MSP430 series of ultra-low-power microcontrollers includes a variety of devices, which feature different peripheral sets for various applications. This architecture with five low-power modes is optimized to extend the battery life in portable measurement applications. The device has a powerful 16-bit RISC CPU, 16-bit registers, and a constant generator that helps achieve the highest coding efficiency. The digitally controlled oscillator (DCO) enables the device to wake up from the low-power mode to the active mode in less than 6 μs. The MSP430FG43x microcontroller device has two 16-bit timers, a high-performance 12-bit ADC, two 12-bit DACs, three configurable operational amplifiers, a universal synchronous/asynchronous communication interface, DMA, 48 I/O pins, and an LCD driver.
