Overview
The PowerPAK package was developed around the SO-8 package. The PowerPAK SO-8 shares the same package dimensions and pin layout as the standard SO-8, enabling it to serve as a drop-in replacement. As a leadless package, the PowerPAK SO-8 utilizes the full SO-8 footprint by reclaiming the area normally occupied by leads, allowing it to accommodate a larger die than the standard SO-8. The exposed die attach pad on the bottom provides a direct, low-resistance thermal path to the substrate on which the device is mounted. Finally, the package profile is lower than that of the standard SO-8, making it ideal for space-constrained applications.
