The TPS2041B power distribution switch series is designed for applications that may encounter heavy capacitive loads and short circuits. The device contains a 70-mΩ N-channel MOSFET power switch for power distribution systems requiring multiple switches in a single package. Each switch is controlled by a logic enable pin. An internal charge pump provides gate drive; this charge pump is designed to control the rise and fall times of the power switch to minimize current surges during switching. The charge pump requires no external components and operates with supply voltages as low as 2.7 V. When the output load exceeds the current limit threshold or a short circuit occurs, the device switches to constant current mode, pulls the overcurrent (OC) logic output low, and limits the output current to a safe level. When sustained heavy overloads and short circuits in the switch cause increased power dissipation, the resulting rise in junction temperature triggers a thermal protection circuit that shuts down the switch to prevent damage. Once the device has cooled sufficiently, it automatically recovers from thermal shutdown. Internal circuitry ensures the switch remains off until a valid input voltage is present.
